Aspiring directors will be given the chance to work with some of the best talent in the music industry through the second Radar Festival. Kylie Minogue, Just Jack, Maximo Park and Richard Hawley are just some of the artists who have released their tracks to the festival for up and coming directors to work with.
This year we will offer more than 20 commissions or £1k cash in prizes for the best talent out there.
John Hassay, MD of Colonel Blimp who represent last year’s winner said: “Radar does a great job of shining a big bright light on the next generation of talent…”
The competition invites filmmakers to choose from a selection of 16 tracks to base their promo on. These include: Maximo Park, Public Symphony, Richard Hawley, Kylie Minogue; Machine, Ulrich Schnauss, Cinematic Orchestra or Recoil; Sondre Lerche or Soulsavers with Mark Lanegan: Siobhan Donaghy, Flying Lotus, The Heavy, Just Jack, Maps or The Good The Bad and The Queen.
The first Radar held in January 07, was a huge success. From the 230 people who entered, four directors already have representation with production companies, nine directors have made or are making promos for labels, two have made big brand commercials and many directors have been invited to pitch for work as a result of Radar. Every one of them says Radar has helped them get these results.
As well as prizes, Radar gives finalists a valuable level of exposure. All tracks are licensed so directors can use their promos for personal showreels or festivals.
The closing date for entries is the 7th October this year. Promos will be judged by record labels and production companies. Shortlisted promos will be screened online.
Winners will get mentoring with world class promo production companies The Directors Bureau, Black Dog and Draw Pictures. Finalists will win record label commissions or cash. This year, we’ve added a new student category with a prize of £1k, judged by Qoob.tv.
