A new short film competition with a difference is giving film enthusiasts in Greater Manchester the chance to win cash prizes, get their films screened at a gala event, meet leading industry names and win a place on a prestigious video school to take their skills further. The BigStoryLittleFilm competition challenges you to make a five-minute film based on something from the Bible.
It could be a story, a theme, a character, a passage or even a word – it’s up to you. You might want to relate the Bible story to your own experience, or stage an up to date re-telling, make a documentary or an animated film, do street interviews, a drama or comedy, make a pop video, advert, thriller, its your choice. From cinema’s earliest days, film makers have found that the stories, themes, characters, images, and mystery of this amazing book has inspired them to re-tell different aspects of it, from historical epics to contemporary drama.
What kind of film will the Bible inspire you to make? You don’t have to be religious, go to church, or know the Bible – just put your passion for film together with the Bible and see what happens. To find out how to take part, go to You don’t even have to have made a film before, even a home movie. In fact, there are two prizes for beginners, so we are encouraging you to have a go for the first time – that’s why BigStoryLittleFilm is not open to professionals. But if you live in or attend university/school in Greater Manchester and are just bursting with ideas, passion and any excuse to use a Mini DV camera, we want to hear from you.
