Avid DNxHD
Avid DNxHD is an encoding technology, or codec, that is specifically designed for HD postproduction. Other codecs, which are developed by camera manufacturers, can lose image quality during the nonlinear editing and compositing process due to the vast number of times that media files are repeatedly uncompressed, manipulated, and recompressed. Developed by the leading nonlinear editing manufacturer, Avid DNxHD is designed to maintain the image quality of 8- and 10-bit uncompressed HD media throughout the entire postproduction process. In addition, Avid DNxHD allows professionals to work with files that offer superior image HD quality at standard definition file sizes, eliminating the need for additional storage that would otherwise be required when working with uncompressed HD media. Using Avid DNxHD, professionals can edit HD footage and perform precise color correction, contrast adjustments, effects, and compositing over multiple generations of postproduction processing – with virtually no image degradation.
