Wright State University

Wright State University offers the BA degress in film history/criticism, and the BFA degree in film production. We have a very professional faculty, with numerous publications, films, international festival prizes, and even Academy award nominations. On the production side, we are especially interested in producing independent filmmakers, though our students have gone on to Hollywood careers and won Emmy and Golden Globe awards for their film work. We are are also very interested in attracting working class students who might not otherwise be able to afford going to film school. We strongly believe that these young people also deserve access to the film industry. Production and theory goes hand in hand, and students are expected to study both. There is a 3-course sequence in film history, many specialty theory courses on subjects in genre, authorship, and national cinemas. Examples of these courses include The Blacklist Era, Melodrama and Feminist Criticism, John Ford, Gay Cinema, The Suspense Thriller, Italian Ne-Realism, and so forth. The Production sequence includes 8 consecutive courses, with additional specialty courses in Screenwriting, Cinematography, Post-Production, Video-Production, and Senior Seminar in Film Networking. Out students are expected to be complete artists: to be able to write, think, and develop critical sensitivities and visual eyes. Students must pass continuing performances evaluations in order to continue on through the program. Evaluations occur after the first quarter, then at the end of the first and second years. Production students culminate their work with a major portfolio film which is expected to be entered in international festivals and serve as a career calling card.

Nestled in the urban sprawl of Dayton, OH, a person who has a vision can do ALOT worse then to come here. The staff values everyone's creative output, and they seek to mold and empower you to the best of your ability, while keeping a solid foot on the grounds of purity, originality, and the old theory of "" Is this working? "" With my senior film coming to a close, I am going to miss going here and walking among giants. Great school. Good people. A ton of ideas. The Wright choice."
