"I think that the film program at this school is lacking. First off, freshman year consists of almost exclusively fine arts: Drawing, Painting and Sculpting. The freshman film class (while entertaining) is just watching movies... some that have great education value... and some that dont. The sophomore film class is also extremely limited. While you do get to work on real film, you arent allowed to have any in shot camera motion. I understand that it's most people's first time using film, but to tilt the camera doesnt take an extraordinary amount of experience. My major problem with the school is the cost. For 25k a year I expected a little more. The equipment is outdated. There are stations with Final Cut Pro, but they are reserved for second semester junior, and seniors. Freshmen and Sophomore all have to splice their film manually. While it may be an interesting experience... lets face it... no one in the industry (sans people doing contemporary art exhibits) splices film anymore. Also, for 25k a year, I would expect my film to be payed for. This past semester I spent 300 dollars on 30 minutes of film (including processing.) At other schools these costs are covered by tuition, at UArts... everything is out of your pocket. There is more I could say, but I think that these are the most valid points. If you're looking for a film school in Philly... go to Temple."
