I graduated from UT in 1999, and I have been wanting to go back since. The professors are all top notch, the resources are good, and the education is great. I loved it. I was in the Intensive Production Sequence, which was very concentrated on production. I am very proud to be a UT Film Alumni.

U.T. Austin is a great university and the R.T.F. program is top-notch, both in terms of production and screenwriting. With the roll out this year of R.T.F.-affiliated Burnt Orange Productions, the program is likely to pass up the prestige film programs on the left and right coasts. Not to mention the liveability factor in Austin vs. NYC or LA. If in doubt, come check it out.

I think you'd be better off if you read what Robert Rodriguez has written with regards to film schools, then realize that he went to U.T. In my opinion, there is no true preparation for the low-pay/no-pay industry that doesn't really exist in Austin anyway. There is a lot of U.T. pride and you will learn using good equipment, but where you go from there is anyone's guess. If I were a prospective student I would not waste my time with a school that did not have steadfast statistics, above 50%, in placement in the industry. Check out the career services center at U.T. for their statistics, then decide.
