Towson University's Electronic Media and Film major is a small program with a big punch. Located a few miles outside of Baltimore City, Towson University is a great setting for creativity. The program offers an array of course work from script writing to lighting, 16mm film production to digital nonlinear editing, and even experimental theory and practice. It's all there, and the really good news... They are well equipped! I found instruction to be great in some cases and fall short in others but for the most part, Towson's small class sizes and reputation as a teachers college help it make up the difference for any lack of instruction by providing hands on experience with close personal attention. Many of the professors are directly from the industry and continue to create when not in the classroom. The staff at Towson's College of Fine Arts & Communications seem dedicated to keeping equipment current and running well. The most impressive part is that they seem willing to explore evolving curriculum that will keep film students prepared for entry into the workplace. High marks in the, "bang for your buck," category for Towson University.

Towson's Electronic Media and Film Department (EMF) provides a quality education at an affordable price. Covering Film, Television, Radio, and Theory and Criticism, Towson's EMF department is simply awesome. You can learn the same things you'd learn at UCLA or NYU at Towson for a fraction of the cost. Granted, the aformentioned institutions are world renowned for their film programs, Towson enjoys a more low key reputation as a Maryland State School that offers a quality education in production, theory, and practice in the fields of television, radio, and film. I actually applied to Towson in 2001 based on the review above. Thanks for your great review "anonymous." After researching the program, and visiting the school, I knew it was the place for me. I am now happy to report that I have graduated, and am working in the industry. My time at Towson was off the hook. Great education, cool professors, bangin' chicks, nice local bars, and Baltimore and DC are just a hop, skip, and jump away, need I say more? I hope that my review encourages someone else to look into Towson's EMF department.

You're better off on your own unless you just need the degree or if you don't care about making good films, just passing the classes. It's a fight tooth and nail to to anything worth mentioning. Students usually call any non-Hollywood films pretentious and prefer to make films in small groups about fighting ninjas. It's not even worth going into. Basically you get what you pay for - it's worth spending a little extra to go to a real school.
