Depending on the faculty, you'll either obtain the best film advocate or your worst enemy while studying here. Like any other big school, many of the professors seemed to be more interested in furthering their own careers than that of their students, but you may get extremely lucky (like myself) and find that one professional sage who'll guide you to your success in and out of college. Since my graduation 5 years ago, they seem to have gotten wise and let loose some of the dead weight, but there's always one bad apple. Also, despite the fact that PSU is not really known as a film school, it is HIGHLY competitive and you MUST maintain a relatively high GPA in order to complete your studies.

The film program is small and tight knit. There is no studio so all shooting is done on location, which doesn't provide for great audio. If you want to do football documentaries...this is the place to be. Penn State provides a well rounded education in a real college town. I highly recommend continuing your degree in a MFA program after graduating.

I loved my 4 years at PSU studying film & video. The faculty all really care about the students. You really get alot of individual treatment in the program because although PSU is HUGE, the film program is quite small. There are lots of opportunities to get involved in projects from the time you enter the program. The equiptment is quite new and very well maintained. I highly recommend taking a second look at this school!! GO LIONS!
