The school is great for people of color who are interested in making films that speak to the black experience. It has equipment, and it is state of the art, the only problem is that you can't reserve it for more than 24 hrs unless its the weekend. The grad program has students that are really pushing to have their ideas seen. The cinematographer for Spike Lee's films, came out of Howard, and Haile Gerima, the director of Sankofa teaches there. In addition the school has a television station, several film festivals, and are planning to build a whole new facility in 2005. I would go then. I saw the blueprints its going to be beautiful.

Howard gave me something so essential to the backbone of my life's path: it taught me the importance of my role as a storyteller in this world. I met like-minded people who I still collaborate with today. It is my home base at Howard that does not allow me to create substandard content. I must say, though, that I didn't learn enough about surviving as an artist while I was there. There are things I wish I could have been warned about. But I've learned, and am learning still the tactics to not only survive, but to thrive; and I am doing so while still holding fast to my acute ethics and integrity I have gained from my experience as a student at Howard University.
