Wishing for another world right now? Turn to the Third Eye Film Festival (TEFF), celebrating its inaugural run December 2-4, 2016, featuring 37 short films with ’otherworldly’ themes. Founded by award-winning filmmakers Darian Brenner (protégée of Sex and the City’s Patricia Field) and Namrata Desai, TEFF gives a platform for female-driven work in the fantasy, horror, and spiritual genres. The festival encourages social change by sharing stories and voices underrepresented in these fields; over half of this year’s selections are by visionary up-and-coming women storytellers. TEFF has also revolutionized the ‘otherworldly’ genres by curating and creating a whole new category for audiences – the “Spiritual/Mysticism†film. Highlights of this year’s selections include a gay man’s paranormal struggle with anorexia, a Cannes-premiered dreamy descent across the five rivers of Hades, a French sci-fi musical about a bionic girl, and so much more. TEFF kicks off its debut year at the historic Howl! Happening space in the East Village, home to the estates of graphic designer/“fifth Ramone†Arturo Vega and performance artist Tom Murrin. If you believe in magic and progress, it’s time to support the only festival of its kind that explores the unexplainable!
