The Flicks: The Horror Genre with Charles Spiteri

Description

OPENChannel presents “The Flicks” a series of monthly film nights exploring the history and theory of cinema from the comfort of the OPENChannel lounge.

On August 1st at The Flicks, Charles Spiteri will explore horror. Is it relevant today?

Are vampires and zombies still frightening to today’s audiences? If not, then how has the horror genre tapped into a modern Zeitgeist? Are modern films labelled as ‘horror’ missing the boat completely? The focus of this presentation is not merely to explore some of the historical themes that have become a part of the genre, but to develop the notion that horror is not a genre, but an emotion and as such the significance of such an emotion reverberates outside the confines of the genre.
