Organization: Compass Film International

Organizer: Sam King

Description

The Compass of Resistance International Film Festival aims to showcase ‘cinema against the grain’ – representing films from four regions of the world that in various ways provoke and challenge ‘the establishment’. The festival will offer a diverse range of international cinema that reacts against the status quo; whether that be political, sexual, racial, avant-garde or opposition to film conventions themselves. The concept for the festival revolves around the ‘compass’ idea, using the cultural angle of the compass points to provoke international enquiry into ‘resistance’ films around the globe.

The festival includes a core programme of events (2-4 November at Arnolfini centre, Bristol), and supporting cultural activity in the surrounding fortnight at venues city-wide, including Afrikan film events, short film exhibition and competition and showcases for new and emerging filmmakers whose films fit within the ‘resistance’ theme.
