Screen Singapore celebrates Singapore films, from past to present. On for the whole month of August, this year’s inaugural festival ties in with Singapore’s 40th anniversary celebrations. Spanning a fifty-year period from self-rule to independent state, Screen Singapore traces the development of a nation through its movies. With 31 feature films and 15 short films made between 1955 and 2005, this month-long festival provides historical and contemporary insights into Singaporean culture and society. From the golden age of the studio system to the new generation of filmmakers, Screen Singapore offers an exciting variety of comedies, action thrillers and social dramas, all made in Singapore! From P. Ramlee to Jack Neo, from Jefri Zain to Cleopatra Wong, Screen Singapore is a journey into Singapore’s cinematic heritage.
Screen Singapore is organised by Phish Communications and supported by the Singapore Film Commission, Kodak and the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts.
