Description

The Reel Shorts Film Festival celebrates short films and the filmmakers who make them every April in Grande Prairie, a city of 52,000 in northwest Alberta, Canada. We screen some of the best short films from around the world and present a school program, workshops, visiting filmmakers, and many opportunities to mingle and meet.

Westjet and Air Canada offer many flights to and from the Grande Prairie Airport which is a 10-minute drive to Second Street Theatre where most screenings take place.

Our festival presents an ideal opportunity to explore northwest Alberta and northeast BC. A scenic 2-hour drive south takes you to Grande Cache and the Rocky Mountains. An hour drive west takes you to Dawson Creek, BC which is Mile 0 of the Alaska Highway. There are many other nearby attractions including Saskatoon Lake and the trumpeter swans which return in April from their annual migration south.

As an extra attraction, just look skyward on a clear night during our festival and you may be greeted by brilliance that even surpasses what can be seen on the screen. The Northern Lights are shimmering ribbons of light that can be seen about 160 nights a year.
