The L.A. COMEDY SHORTS AND L.A. COMEDY SCRIPTS FESTIVAL (LACS) is a four-day, star-studded celebration of comedic films and scripts, designed to put the spotlight on comedy, and honor “funny people who do funny work.”
Sponsored by The ONION, this Los Angeles-based event has already been endorsed by some of the biggest names in comedy, including Kevin Nealon, Bill Engvall, and Fax Bahr, co-creator of “MADtv.” Judges and presenters include Adam Carolla, SNL alum Laraine Newman, Michael McDonald of “MADtv,” Mindy Sterling, “The Boondocks” creator Aaron McGruder, as well as Wendi McLendon-Covey, Cedric Yarbrough and Carlos Alazraqui from “Reno 911.”
Winning shorts and screenplays receive prime industry exposure, cash and prizes valued at over $40,000 USD, including resources to produce their next film. Top honors also include face to face meetings with executives at Benderspink (AMERICAN PIE, THE RING), and Generate (Comedy Central’s “Chocolate News” with David Alan Grier.)

The L.A. Comedy Shorts Film Festival and L.A. Comedy Scripts is dedicated to giving comedic filmmakers a chance to show their wares in an arena specifically designed for them with the connections they need to boost their careers to the next level.

The production package that goes to the Best-of-Fest Grand Prize winner for Short Film includes equipment and professional crew for one day, courtesy of The Association, valued at over $12,000; a complete post sound editing package on the winner’s next short film under 30 minutes, courtesy of Stokes Audio; a video editing package from Storytellerz Productions, valued at over $8,000; and an original musical scoring package by composer Kubilay Uner.
The screenplay competition’s top three finalists in each category can receive up to $1000 toward round-trip airfare and accommodations in L.A., in addition to cash and other prizes. Winning writers also receive VIP festival passes and will be honored alongside winning filmmakers at the red carpet Gala Awards in Hollywood.
