Description

On 11th October 2006, to celebrate Black History Month, Own It (www.own-it.org) the free intellectual property service for creative people are teaming up with Film London, Channel 4 Ideas Factory and B3Media to stage a free event for filmmakers. Entitled Fresh Shoots: New Platforms in Film, the event will cover issues including:

· Ownership rights for artists and independent filmmakers approaching digital film distributors
· Creative commons (flexible copyright)
· Distribution rights

As well as focusing on the rights and protection issues involved in creating films and videos that are freely distributed or downloaded via new showcase methods (such as mobile streaming, iPods, PSPs and PDAs), the event will also examine whether these digital mediums present new ways of thinking about protecting your work in terms of its content and context, and how to use and share creativity.

This free event will be chaired by Marc Booth of B3 Media (http://www.b3media.net) who has previously worked as Senior Executive at the UK Film Council’s New Cinema Fund. Speakers include Lee Gage, IP solicitor at Harbottle & Lewis LLP (http://www.harbottle.com), Karen Alexander and Founder/Director of Africa at the Pictures (http://www.africaatthepictures.co.uk), Keith Shiri.
