Organization: Light House Media Centre Wolverhampton

Description

Enjoy some of the most innovative and exciting animated films from around the world, some getting their first audience screenings, at this year’s FLIP festival. Organised by Light House Media Centre in Wolverhampton, FLIP aims to celebrate animation produced regionally, nationally and internationally and to inspire and entertain people of all ages. Following the success of the first FLIP in 2004, this year’s festival is held over three days at venues in Wolverhampton and Birmingham from 27 to 29 October 2005.

The programme is packed with screenings, debates, hands-on workshops, demonstrations and opportunities to hear from industry specialists – a must for all animation fans.

As well as films by professionals from around the world, people will also get the chance to see entries in the Student Animation competition, featuring work by students from the University of Wolverhampton, Staffordshire and UCE and short films produced by schoolchildren from across the West Midlands.

Other festival highlights include the Regional Animation Showcase, Student Screening and Awards, panels, industry debates, workshops for teachers, drop-in workshops for families, screenings: including Channel 4’s AIR and Animate! schemes, the festival premiere of E4’s Estings competition; BBC Three New Animators Awards; SE3D Showcase and FLIP Fair with stalls and demonstrations. The festival kicks off at The Custard Factory in Birmingham on Thursday 27 October at 7pm.

Stuart Barnecutt, of Screenburn animation studio, who took part in last year’s festival said, “Flip is great opportunity for animators to get their work seen. It was good to see such a strong selection of companies and visitors from outside the region… it’s very important to bring companies such as ourselves together with other businesses in the same area, as well as future talent”.
