Description

We invite you to participate in Dock’s Docs Gdansk Remix competition for the best collage of video documentaries from the Gdansk Shipyard. All you have to do is download archive films and audio recordings, compose an original story about freedom and win a scholarship in
in a prestigious INA Sup – European Centre for research, training and education on Digital Media – located outside of Paris. The deadline for submitting entries is the end of April. Awarded films will be screened during the European Culture Congress in Wroclaw and the winners will be special guests at all Congress’ events.

The Polish “Solidarityâ€ movement is the symbol of freedom recognised all over the world. Its origins
date back to August 1980 and Shipyard workers strike in Gdansk. Nine years later those events led to
the fall of communism in Europe. In the era of global free market the Shipyard faces new challenges
and is forced to redefine its own legend while going through another transformation. What is the Gdańsk Shipyard.today? How can it contribute to the future of Europe? Dock’s Docs Gdansk Remix could provide answers for these questions.

The archive video material, as well as audio and films recorded during last couple of years were
uploaded to Dailymotion website. The more recent recordings show how time is slowly destroying the legendary place. Mixing the new and the archive materials can result in the new quality of art.

Web users from all over the world are invited to participate. All you have to do is log in on Dailymotion, download the provided materials and finally create your original story about the Shipyard.

Remixes will be judged by the international jury: Zbigniew Rybczynski, Wilhelm Sasnal, media scholar Ryszard Kluszczynski, Variety journalist Nick Holdsworth and Mathieu Gallet, the director of the Institut National de l’Audiovisuel (INA).

Dock’s Docs Gdansk Remix is a part of the Cultural Programme – Polish EU Presidency 2011.
Commissioners: National Audiovisual Institute (NInA) and l’Institut National de l’Audiovisuel (INA).
Partners: Gdansk and the Metropolis, the European Capital of Culture 2016 Candidate, Video Studio
