CIAC (Center of Research in Arts and Communication, UAlg) is pleased to announce the First International Conference on World Cinema 2015, on the theme of Lars von Trier.
Please submit abstracts of 200-300 words, along with a short bio before December 31, 2014 to cinemadmundo@gmail.com
Languages of conference: Portuguese, Spanish, English or French.
Lars von Trier has achieved a predominant place in the panorama of contemporary cinema. Applauded by some and criticized by others, his films are always subject of controversy and hearty discussions in the media. His aesthetic, fundamentally rooted in the unpleasant, allied to his theoretical positions (Dogma95) as well as his irreverent attitude towards the media, has contributed to inscribe his name in World Cinema.
Von Trier’s cinema escapes the hermeticism of categories, be them gender, style or school, and offers itself as a hybrid and experimental language. Its reception, equally controversial, concerns the (still present) possibility to innovate, shock and take viewers to react(ion).
Authors are invited to submit abstracts on the following topics (although not restricted to these):
• Dogma 95
• Lars von Trier in the Scandinavian cinema panorama
• Theatre, literature and cinema
• History and identity
• Aesthetics of the unpleasant
• Body
• Emotions
• Hypnosis
• Sexuality (ies)
• Gender
• Reception and Media
• Presence and Influences (Tarkovski, Dreyer etc..)
