Description

MISSION & OBJECTIVE

Showcasing Mélies to indies to blockbusters, the Boston Science Fiction Film Festival brings filmmakers and audiences together to celebrate the diversity of imagination through film.

ABOUT THE FESTIVAL

In 1976, the legendary Orson Welles Cinema in Cambridge, MA ran a 24-hour film marathon called IT CAME FROM THE ORSON WELLES. Starting at noon on President’s Day weekend and ending 1,440 minutes later, guests gathered in a single theater to watch classic, schlock and premiere science fiction films. The ‘THON, as it became to be called, has become a sci-fan’s treasured event every year since.

The fest now includes ten days of new films leading up to the 24-hour film marathon, Boston’s “Other Marathon”. The ‘thon is arguably the world’s oldest running festival of its kind.

Awards are given by judges and by the audience.
