Ghanaian film lovers and professionals in the film industry will certainly not be left out in the Ghana @ 50 Golden Jubilee celebrations with the institution of the annual Ananse International Film Festival, purposely designed to increase trade opportunities and development in the film, video and broadcast industries.
The 3-day festival initiated by three dynamic directors in the film industry, that is, Michael Gyang, Film Marketing, Yaw Boakye, Film Production and Emmanuel Apea Jnr, Film Directing would be held under the theme “Projecting Ghana Positively through Filmsâ€.
AIFF 2007 is a festival of films, video and television productions from Ghana, Africa and all over the world.
Being the first of its kind in Ghana, the festival will herald the 50th Golden Jubilee Anniversary of Ghana’s Independence. It will be open from March 3 – 5, 2007.
The event will be an annual affair scheduled to be held on the first weekend in March every year and will feature screenings, exhibitions conferences, seminars, workshops and panel discussions during the three day event.
The Festival will bring together film makers, writers, broadcasters, and all those in the film, video and television industry under one roof to interact, network, exhibit and exchange ideas that relate to the plying of their trade.
The event will also afford decision makers in the film industry a platform to meet, interact and brainstorm with a view to fostering better and equitable trade relationships.
The main exhibitors and participants of the maiden edition of the AIFF include film makers, TV series/serial producers/directors, TV stations, advertisers and broadcasters.
Others are broadcast equipment manufacturers/dealers/agents, film equipment manufactures/dealers/agents, multi-media production companies, and post production companies.
The rest are distribution exhibitors, film and broadcast institutes, marketers of film and TV series/serials and all film crew.
The AIFF 2007 will be organised in collaboration with a number of relevant Government ministries comprising the Ghana@50 Committee, Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Information and National Orientation, Ministry of Tourism and Diasporan Relations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Interior
Diplomatic missions working in close collaboration with the organisers are French Embassy – cultural attaché, Goethe Institute – German Embassy, Alliance Francaise and British Council – UK High Commission.
Others are Sithengi-South Africa High Commission, Korean Embassy, Indian High Commission-Bollywood and the Chinese Embassy.
The rest are the American Embassy-Hollywood, Nigerian Embassy-Nollywood and the United Nations office-Accra.
Institutions and agencies also involved in the programme include Afrimus, Revele films, Ghana Broadcasting Cooperation – GTV, TV3 Network – GAMA Films, Metro TV – Ebony studios, TV Africa – Film Africa and OBE – London UK.
The Ghana Actors Guild, NAFTI, FIPAG, GHAFTA, Afripique, MUSIGA, School Of Performing Arts and the Academy of Screen Arts are the few of a host of agencies and associations also collaborating with the organisers to make the event a success.
The Festival will offer a unique exposition for film makers, television producers, writers, manufactures and supplies of film / video equipment users of goods and services in the film and television production.
The festival for film and television productions targets over the 10,000 tourists expected from outside Ghana as well as over 20,000 people from within Ghana.
Manufactures and users of film and video equipment, investors and foreign organisations seeking joint venture partnership with Ghanaians are also expected to participate fully in the festival.
As the maiden International Festival of Film and Video productions, the organisers hope to use the opportunity of the 50th Golden Jubilee Anniversary of Ghana”s Independence to screen films dating back from the 1950’s – Independence time with the Queen and the first President, Kwame Nkrumah to the 50th year featuring H E John Agyekum Kufour.
With the celebration of Ghana’s fiftieth Independence Anniversary in Accra, the Government is expecting of 10,000 tourists most of whom, will take advantage of the first International Festival of Film and Video productions to see what Ghana and Africa can offer within the film Industry.
The vision of the festival will be to increase trade opportunities and development in the Film / Video and Broadcast Industry.
Areas of interest identified to inform the participating public are screening of films, exhibition of broadcast and film/video equipment, facilitation of buying and selling of audiovisual content, facilitation of new contacts for participants, the creation of conducive environment for speedy negotiation of deals and getting in touch with the latest changes affecting the audiovisual sector.
