About the Tutor:
David Letch has got to be one of the greatest actors of his time. From his magnificent internationally acclaimed portrayal of Patrick the lovestruck alcoholic in ANGEL AT MY TABLE and the retarded creature in HEART OF THE HIGH COUNTRY to his spine chilling performance as the ghost in MR WRONG, Dave Letch is one of New Zealand’s greatest exports.

Dave has worked across film, television and theatre in a career that covers acting, writing and directing. He has written for Crawford Productions in the days of Homicide and Division Four, written the animated features Rancid Rat and Mephisto Lives and Beyond The Game a music theatre work concerning street kids working ‘the wall’ in Darlinghurst.

He was nominated Best Actor by British Vogue for his role in the mini series Heart of the High Country and has played SPIDER in the grand prix winning sci fi film Death Warmed Up. He hung up his hat as an actor following his highly acclaimed creation of Patrick in Jane Campion’s An Angel At My Table to concentrate on his love of developing and creating new theatre. He has produced and directed many award winning short films and documentaries and he created the most successful for young people’s operas – Opera QLD where he has also directed for the main stage.

He was co-artistic director of RENEGADE INC. a company dedicated to new Australian writing and was a writer’s mentor for “Tropnestâ€ based at fox studios. He has sat on the board of the ANPC (Australian National Playwrights Centre) and was Vice President of Brisbane Independent Filmmakers. He was founding Editor in Chief of ‘Exposure’ film and arts magazine and the International Short Film Festival of the same name. He has held the position of Artist In Residence to James Cook University where he taught across all levels of the theatre degree and directed graduating year productions and showcases. He also created the acting for camera component of the degree and taught specialist areas in Alexander Technique, Improvisation and Shakespeare.
He has been Dramaturge to the Melbourne Theatre Company, Queensland Theatre Company, Playbox and many independent production houses. His most recent theatre productions have included A Tree Falling by Ron Elisha which was nominated for a Green Room Award, The Blind by Maeterlinck, Solitary Animals by Elaine Acworth, Beauty & the Beast by Nick Dear and the critically acclaimed new work by Ron Elisha Wrongful Life. Dave is a regular director for and consultant to Parnassus’ Den and shall direct their main house 2006 production Renaissance at The Old Fitz later this year.

Grant Thompson has been a Senior Agent for the past six years with Morrissey Management, Encompass, and Pacific Artists Management. He has also – up until just recently, worked closely with Faith Martin on Two Twisted, McLean & Green and Toni Higginbotham Casting, and was instrumental in Screenwise 12 month intensive student, Valentino Del Toro scoring the lead role in Two Twisted with Jacqueline McKenzie. Grant has also organised auditions for some selected stage II students for roles in feature films and McLeod’s Daughters.

Currently Producer and Casting Director for ‘Ambience Entertainment’, Grant is currently Producing the late show, Midnight Zoo on Channel 7. Grant’s acting credits include: The Dish All Saints, Water Rats, Medivac. Grant wrote The Policy in 2003, and is currently developing two feature films for AMBIENCE.

Uniquely designed to give the actor that edge when auditioning for American Film & TV Productions, SCREENWISE has designed an extraordinary workshop incorporating phonetics and camera, which runs for 6 weeks.

One class per week x 2 hours per class
6.30p.m. – 8.30p.m.

Actors will learn phonetics and work in front of the camera doing monologues, and scene work with other actors, acting and reacting in standard American dialect. Standard American is the most popular accent when it comes to our overseas productions, so this workshop works exclusively on Standard American. Should you wish to video record your progress, please bring a long a vhs tape.

Denise’s mentor was the great Hayes Gordon whom she studied solidly with for three years. During her 6 year stint on GP, Denise taught film and television for Hayes at the Ensemble Studios for 6 years.
Currently starring as Aunty Barbara in the feature film ‘RAZZLE DAZZLE’, Denise has just completed the highly successful David Williamson play ‘A CHARITABLE INTENT’ and is best known for her starring roles as the University Registrar Jessica Andrews in channel 7’s HEADLAND, town Matriarch, Isabelle Turnbull in ALWAYS GREENER, and Julie Winters in the medical drama GP which ran from 1989 to 1996.
Author of the Actor’s Advisory Manual, Get Your Act Together, Denise has directed numerous theatre plays, the last one being Lovers At Versailles at the Playhouse – Opera House.
Her 10 minute short feature Stairwell, was screened at the LA International Short Film Festival.
Denise has picked up accolades at every stage of her career, including a Chief Glugs Award for Excellence Behind the Scenes, an AFI Award and a Variety Club of Australia Award for Best Actress in a Television Drama and numerous Silver Logie Nominations for Most Outstanding Actress on Australian Television and a Film Critics Circle Nomination for Best Supporting Actress alongside Cate Blanchett and Frances O’Connor.

The Screenwise 2 YEAR INTENSIVE PROGRAM consists of:
Two classes per week, 3 to 4 hours each in duration over eight 10 week terms.

The Screenwise 12 MONTH INTENSIVE SHOWREEL COURSE consists of:
Two classes per week, 3 to 4 hours each in duration over four 10 week terms.

Students will cover all facets of film and television drama, sitcom, comedy, presenting, auditions, characterisation, and additional dialogue recording (ADR), American Dialect, Voice, & Theatre Sports. Entry is by audition only.

At the completion of the 2 YEAR INTENSIVE, Screenwise graduating students showcase their work on the big screen at an Industry Presentation of invited Actors’ Agents, Producers, Directors and Casting Consultants. During this showcase presentation, our Graduates meet with the invited Industry Guests who are also presented with student details, photographs, biographies and showreels, Graduates will also receive a Certificate Of Achievement. Screenwise prides itself on the immeasureable industry support it gives it’s students during and after their graduation.

At the completion of the 12 MONTH INTENSIVE, graduates will receive a fully professionally produced and edited showreel, directed by professional directors and shot on location.
