2015 South Shorts Film Competition Now Open Worthing Film Club has announced their South Coast Short Film Competition for 2015. Working in partnership with Worthing WOW again, TVFP at Portsmouth University and Film Hub South East, the Film Club are delighted to be running this groundbreaking competition for its second year.
South Shorts celebrates film making and local talent in and around the South East coast – with a clear focus on encouraging and supporting emerging, amateur and locally committed film makers and providing them with opportunities to showcase and promote their films. Launched last June as part of the first Worthing WOW Festival – South Shorts enjoyed incredible success with very accomplished entries, resulting in some inspiring screenings. Cheryl White’s moving and compelling film Before Babel won last year’s Best Film category; inspired so much by South Shorts it gave her confidence to secure further funding to develop the piece into a longer full length film.
This year’s competition follows a very similar format; films in all genres are accepted as long as they are up to 20mins long. The deadline is 1st May 2015; and submissions are NOW open – send your film on DVD along with your £5 entry fee to: Worthing WOW, South Shorts Competition, PO Box 4947, WORTHING BN11 9YQ. For more details on entry requirements check out www.southshorts.co.uk
Films will be long-listed by a panel of judges which will be screened at the Connaught Studio during the afternoon of 14th June 2015. The winning shortlist will be announced that evening at a special showcase and awards ceremony. Prizes will be awarded for Best Film, Best Cinematography, Best Innovative Filmmaking, Best Story, Best Acting and The Connaught Short Film Award – a special prize selecting one of the films to support a main feature movie showing at the Connaught Theatre later this year.
Remember the deadline for getting your film in is Friday 1st May 2015!
Tickets for the Film Day on 14th June are just £10, available from Worthing Theatres box office 01903 206206 www.worthingtheatres.co.uk .
Film scholar and one of the South Shorts organisers, Dr Yael Friedman says: “There is a rich history of film production in the area and plenty of local talent that we feel is worth celebrating. The competition is one step towards that. We strive to collaborate with other film societies and organisations so that South Shorts winning films will be screened across the region. The screenings in Worthing are only the beginning; it could be a great jumping board for emerging filmmakers. Last year’s winner for best film is a great example of exactly that, it went on to raise £30,000 funding for a fuller longer version of the film”.
