Filmmakers Alliance will now be accepting submissions for the 3rd annual FA Short Film Lab.
The FA Short Film Lab is a comprehensive 8 month workshop for the artistically driven short filmmaker.
The design of the program includes:
• In depth story and character analysis and notes
• Detailed examination of the visual design of your short
• Focus sessions on directing actors, camera, and editing
• Supportive filmmaking preparation through your first sketchbook
• Practical producing considerations
The FA Short Film Lab makes sure you leave completely prepared for production.
Sessions will begin in May and will meet monthly through November 2008. The program will once again be facilitated by Former Director of Programming of LA Film Festival, Film Consultant, and FA Board President Thomas Ethan Harris.
This is the only short film lab of its kind in the United States, and is being offered at an incredible rate:
Members– only $300. For an 8 month program that makes it ONLY $39 a month. You can pay in full or in an installment plan of 4 easy payments of $75 each.
Non-Members – only $400. For an 8 month program that makes it ONLY $50 a month. You can pay in full or in an installment plan of 4 easy payments of $100.
As an added bonus, on the last session of the lab the participants vote for the winner of a FREE Canon HD Camera Rental package, and FREE Production Insurance for their shoot. Our goal is to help get your short films made!
The deadline for scripts and applications for the 2008 Lab is April 15, 2008.
If you are interested in applying for the lab, please e-mail your application and script to membership@filmmakersalliance.org.

If you are serious about filmmaking, and about challenging yourself to create work at the greatest possible level, then I highly encourage you all to submit.
Best,

See what some of our former participants had to say about the lab:
“The lab literally saved my film. My ideas were there, but it took solid peer review and Thomas’ keen eye to strip it down and sharpen it into the exciting piece we are about to shoot.”
Connor Alexander, 2007 Film Lab Participant
The Lab was a crucial forum helping me see through the superfluous and get down to the story at hand. Thomas is a gifted leader whose generous insights and passionate involvement both inspired and motivated all the participants. The lab was creatively energizing and it raised the bar of excellence and possibility.
Thumbs up!
Artist Filmmaker, SEAN RUSSELL 2007 Film Lab Participant
“The FA Lab provided me with great feedback on my short script which gave me the motivation and momentum I needed to get my butt into production!”
Destri Martino, 2007 Los Angeles Short Film Grant Finalist
“No matter what stage you are in the process of making a film, the Short Film Lab is a great environment to nurture your ideas and to challenge yourself to take your script and film further than you could have on your own.”
Filmmmaker David Woods, 2006 Los Angeles Short Film Grant Finalist
“The FA Film Lab is the most fun you can have with your clothes on. Even if you think your script is perfect and ready to shoot, Thomas will teach you ways to improve it. He knows the indie world inside and out.”
David Andrew Lloyd, 2007 Film Lab Participant
“The FA Short Film Lab experience was invaluable to me, not only for forcing me to move forward with my project, but also in getting me to confront the shortcomings of my script. Having Thomas Harris in the room is an opportunity that you’d have to be nuts to turn down”.
Warren Davis, 2006 Film Lab Participant
