A course designed specifically for filmmakers who want to direct on film using professional actors. You will each shoot a 16mm sync sound film, either from your own script or we help you develop one. We give you the opportunity to turn your film idea into a professional film:
Through a series of professional level practical workshops, you will learn all aspects of film production, culminating in you directing your film on location with a crew using 16mm Arriflex SR, sound, lighting and grips equipment.
From day one you will be engaged in the making of your project, assisted by producers, directors, script writers and cinematographers, using professional equipment to ensure high production values and the necessary script-to-screen visual and emotional interpretation skills that makes great films.
We will take you through each stage of the production process including: Script development, preproduction, scheduling, locations, casting, working with actors, getting performance, editing, postproduction and submission to festivals.
The course is designed for people either working inside the creative industries looking for a career move or students wishing to fast-track their film education to enter the film industry or to further their studies.
The course will be held at the Arts Institute at Bournemouth, which has one of the most innovative and dynamic film schools in Europe. Each year over 700 students apply to study film and hope to be accepted onto one of our exceptional programmes.

Suri Krishnamma, whose work is unique in that his student films won two BAFTA Best Short film nominations. He has subsequently won numerous international festival prizes covering feature films and TV drama. Simon Beaufoy, scriptwriter for ‘The Full Monty’ and Oscar nominee in 2000, Sara Sugarman, whose ‘Diary of a Teenage Drama Queen’ ranked second in the US Box Office returns in 2000 David Evans, who directed ‘Fever Pitch’; and ‘5’.
