hey, we are making a little short flick and will probably submit it to film festivals. since other people will be seeing it do we have to license each song we want in our movie or can we just credit them during the credits?
It would be fine as long as you never accept money for your film... but if you win anything at the festival and there is a cash prize then you have from the time you get out of your seat and walk up on stage to find yourself a very good lawyer.

Unfortunately Dillinja's response is not correct. Yes, you need to license every piece of music you use in a film if it is going to be shown in public.
