Hi All,
filmmaking.net will be 14 years old(!) in 2008. To celebrate, we're about to enter the process of developing the next version of site, so I thought it would be a good opportunity to throw the idea open to the floor and see if anyone has an ideas about what they would like to see in the new site.
At present, the site upgrade will include:
* new site page templates (losing the 800px fixed size)
* sites and services directory will launch (finally!)
* better news and articles system
* inclusion of industry news
* addition of a "press box" where product/service vendors can post press releases targeted at filmmakers
* RSS feeds for news/articles, events, and possibly film schools
So if there's anything you think would be a great addition to filmmaking.net in addition to these, please let us know and we'll see whether it's possible to add it!
Thanks for your on-going support of the site,
Ben Craig

A wide selection of avatars, and their usage in forums, would be nice, lets one have a sense of personality in forums.

embedding of videos in posts would be cool.

I would like to an equipment section on the forum. The discussions on which computer, which editing software and which camera keep popping up again and again. People want to know this stuff and a section would make it easier to find, and there are one or two existing posts that could be added in with a sticky since they answer the builk of the common questions already.

A section dedicated to the viewing of films also may be a good idea.
So what happens to this one then when you switch? Dose it disappear in to cyber space with all the posts and information?
What happens to our post staus? dose every one go back to the beginning?
Do we have to re-register?
When will this take place?
Whats wrong with this one?

I would like to see a topic added ?video contests? because there are a lot of them out there and some you never hear about till it?s too late to enter. It would be nice to have a place where people can find or inform others of current contests. I got really interested in making movies after I entered a contest for a Dean Koontz promo video. I learned so much about film making after seeing all the other entries and it motivated me to get better, plus the money offered for some of these contest would help directors take they movie making to the next level. So this is what I would like to see added

Personally, I like the way cinematography.com does their forums. One of the things I like about it is that for the latest updated post in each forum, they don't just post the user name, they also show the title of the topic as well (Kind of a useless feature, but it certainly helps), and if you click on the title, it will redirect you to the latest post. Cinematography.com also lets you put pictures as well as links to other web pages on your post too. Those types of features would probably make this forum a little better.
It's been 2007 since this topic was posted but I'll take a opportunistic "jab" if you will....so I have two suggestions:
1) I am a random person but I have a respect for clutter. If there was an easier way to search historical topics and way to remove topics that are repetitive, this would bring in "tighter" list of topics that are discussed.
2) Make this site more interactive, maybe have people participate in fun little games. Like on funnyordie.com they have a picture and say, "come up with the funniest caption." Little stuff like that to keep visiting this site.

Is there anyway the time stated on the forum posts could be changed. So you could set the time depending on your location.

How about adding an option for the community to flag forum posts as spam?
I think until the good posts to spam ratio gets higher again, we won't see much traffic here.
