This site is great! Lots of quick answers to my questions thanks alot!
My question revolves around the film "Wings of Desire." It's a German made film and it came out in 1987. For those of you who've seen it, I was wondering about the type of Black and White cinematography used in the film. I read somewhere that the DP used some sort of stocking that was placed over the lens, but I was wondering how I could re-create that type of B&W using a digital camera.
The B&W cinematography in that film is way different than any other kind of B&W I've seen.
Thanks a lot!
how to emulate the exact look of a movie might be a little tricky... as for Wings of Desire, sometimes DOPs but stocking over the lens in order to create a bit of a haze... there are other lenses that might create that effect too.
i'm not sure how you'd go about that with a digital camera exactly though.

never underestimate www.imdb.com, I found the answer in the trivia section.
'All of the black & white sequences were shot through a one-of-a-kind filter made from a stocking that belonged to cinematographer Henri Alekan's grandmother'.
