Most cameras are not recommended to be used when it's very cold outside... Is there any cheap tools to be used to protect the camera from the cold when shooting a winter scene?

One of the big problems is battery life: batteries are very inefficient when they're cold, so a battery that runs for an hour in normal temperatures might only last a few minutes at 40 below zero. For my 35mm still camera you could buy an adaptor that let you keep the battery in your pocket in cold weather, I don't know if there's anything like that for video or film camera batteries.
