I NEED THIS PARTICULAR SHOT FOR MY SHRT FILM, WHERE THE CAMERA IS RIGHT ABOUVE THE ACTOR AND LOOKING STRAIGHT DOWN. THEN IT STARTS COMING DOWN AT HIM FOR A CLOSE UP.

I ORIGINALLY THOUGHT THAT I COULD ACHIEVE THIS BY HAVING THE CAMERA MAN ON A STEP LADDER AND HAVE SOMEONE ELSE ON THE GROUND REALLY CLOSE TO HIM. THE CAMERA MAN WOULD THEN HAND DOWN THE CAMERA TO THE OTHER GUY, WHO WOULD COMPLETE THE SHOT.

DO YOU HAVE ANY OTHER SUGGESTIONS?

Well definitely would be solved by a crane.

If you can't do the price then type in "How to make Camera Crane" in Google and build your own.

Building one is a great idea. I did it out of wood many years ago for a similar shot. A friend of mine built one out of PVC recently.

You could also rent a jib arm for the day. They aren't that expensive.
