I was wondering if anyone new of a specific type of transparent string that I could use to suspend a small object, like the size of a G.I. Joe, about 1-2ft from the camera without showing up on screen. Thanks for your help.
You might also rethink hanging the object from string and try for a bit of redirection instead.
If you have him stuck to a pole from beneath or the side (depending up on the setup) it might be less noticeable simply because people aren't looking there, they are looking for stings above. Then make that pole greenscreen green so it can be removed later, or painted to match the background so it blends (think the hidden bridge in Indian Jones and the Last Crusade). If you can suspend the object using a pole sticking from the back side of the object (and into a wall or something) that is even better, that's how magicians do it I think.

thank you for your help RJ
Any fishing line will work fro something as small as a toy. You can use a light/clear line if
the background is a light color or a dark line if the background is dark. Play around with
the lighting until you can't see it.
One trick I used to use is to turn the camera upside down and hang the model upside down.
That way the line is coming from the bottom of the frame where people aren't looking.

Instigator, that is exactly the kind of thing I was talking about, but if he needs the background in the shot he now has a sofa on the roof. (c;
