Anyone know where to get a really great (and cheap) super 8 transfer? Pro8mm are a bunch of snobs that charge whatever they feel. They suck. Yale is cool, they do rank transfers. I've got 23 rolls to transfer and wanted a digital or rank transfer. I found a place in CA called like Film and Video Transfers (very original) that'll do a one-light rank for around $450. Posthouse in GA?...They good?

Any suggestions? Is rank over-rated? Should I just get a straight-up telecine transfer?

Thanks, guys.

Is rank overrated? That's kind of like asking is a Bentley overrated. It is if all you need is a VW.

They are two very different processes. I know you know that - you've done your research. So it really depends on what you need. If it's for professional use you can't find a better transfer process for Super8 than wetgate Rank Cintel. And you can't get much better than Debenham Media Group for that. CinePost is also a terrific place. I've never used "Film and Video" but I have heard good things.

I agree with you about Pro8mm. They've had a poor reputation since they were Super8Sound in the 1980's. I use Yale often. They do a fine job, their customer service is good and so are their prices. I've done a lot of film chain transfers through them and the results are fine. If you don't need a top of the line transfer, going that route is cheaper and looks good.
