First of all, I'd like to let you know how dedicated I am. I informed my girlfriend recently that I could not move in with her, because I would not be able to afford to buy the video camera I'm saving up for. I've got a dream, and I can't let this one die. I might be in the doghouse... but at least I don't pay rent there!

Anyway, I'm curious about stop-motion animation. I'm goign to be purchasing the JVC HD100U, and I'm curious if I will be able to do stop motion animation with it. Is this kind of animation something best left to film cameras, or is this a plausible idea? Of course, this won't be the main use of the camera, but I thought it would be fun.

You could, but you'll probably have to record a few seconds of each shot and then cut it down to single frames in your editing program. I don't know of any normal camcorder which can record single frames.

Ah, that's what I was curious about. Maybe I could use a framegrabber on the computer to take single frames from the live video coming in from the camera.

Or get a tripod and a decent digital camera and take single shots then import them as an image sequence into your favorite editing program.
