so i have a couple of scenes at an abondoned house. We're going to be shooting during the day so there is enough light coming through the windows but there is no power. I know this will be a problem because the battery in my camera only lasts a little over an hour. I dont have an extra one and we will porbably be shooting for at least six hours. Does anyone have any ideas on how to recharge the camera. I was thinking that maybe a hardware store might have something i can plug in a car in its cigarette lighter with a ac/dc plug on the other end, some sort of adaptor, but i dont know if this exists.
Usually the manufacturer will sell you a car charger for batteries, but they tend to want hundreds of dollars for something that would normally cost tens :).
Another option would be to buy an invertor to run the normal charger from, but I've heard there can be problems with electronic devices on the cheap invertors which just output a square wave.
Alternatively, a bigger battery may be a cheaper option: I don't know what camera you're using but my Z1 gets about 6 hours use off of the most powerful battery Sony sell for it.
The problem with the car charger is you are sitting around waiting for it to charge. That works if you've got to batteries to rotate but sucks if you've got one.
Maybe you can borrow, or rent, an extra battery for that day. A place that rents out whatever model camera you are using might have some batteries you can rent.

cool thanks
Hi there everyone,
I would agree that sitting around waiting for one battery to charge is a bummer - so get another.
As an alternative to the car charger option though, I've noticed really cheap solar panel chargers for sale here in the UK. Might be worth checking out so you don't even have to be near your car to do the charging. You can get them from the usual hardware stores etc.
Cheers

try hiring a silient generator - they only cost about ?15 per day and can power quite a bit of kit.
