If your camera has a widescreen setting it will make widescreen. But On my MiniDv if you set it to 16:9 it doesen't make the real widescreen it streches the video out and makes it normal when I put it on my computer. What I do now is just put it onto an editing program and change the setting so it cuts out the top or the bottom.
