Howdy.
I shot my debut feature last year, a low budget Psychological Horror called Stonecraven. We're almost done but we need to shoot some pick ups and the end of April is the first available opportunity I've got to get the cast and crew together.
I have a scene to shoot where a character sits by a campfire. In the wide shot, I'll have the real fire going, but for the mid shots and close ups, I'm worried that the noise and smoke from the fore will hinder us. Any tips on how to achieve the 'firelight on the face' effect?
Cheers.
I did this once for a commercial we shot on 35
Use a baby or a small light basically to focus on the face. Take 2 85 filters and cut them up so they are a little bigger than the rim of the light itself. Crush both of them inside your palm so you get a very crumpled filter. Then hold both of them seperately and move them in a circular fashion holding them in front of one another. You'll get light to look like its the orange from the fire on the subjects face.
LIGHT > 85crumpledfilter > 85 crumpledfilter
cheers friend, I'll give it a whirl.
