i was wanndering if there was any type of camera that you would be able to reduce the frame rate to 6fps or even less.
i want to film one shot for 24 hours but use as little film stock as posible while keeping natual fluidity to the image.
image blur would be fine, pretty much the more the better. there wont be much movment in the film as i will be filming a cityscape but i would want to speed it up so the 24 hours fits into around 5 mins.
can this be done for video using a camera such as a panasonic dvx 100 or would it be best to use a film camera.
any hints, tips and help would be great.
thanks. kaz
It's called a film camera :).
With a DV camera and a computer you could potentially program it to capture a few frames every few seconds. I think some Sony DV cameras have a time delay feature where they will do that automatically... I believe my TRV900 does, but I've never used it.
Anything in the Canon XL series will do it.
I've tried using that function on my Sony VX2100. My advice is to get as much footage as possible. I tried filming the moon moving using the stop-start shooting method on the Sony cameras and it didn't look good but filming it for just a few minutes normally and then speeding it up looked great. Therefore my advice is to capture as much footage as possible...the more frames the better. Use as much tape as you're willing to lose and see what happens. I do a brief trial run (maybe an hour) just to test what works well.
The DV cameras record a few seconds at a time, so you'd need to cut each of the clips down to a single frame to get the speedup correct.
