Sex scenes. NOT porn!

Okay, friend and I are finishing up a screenplay, and it calls for 1 maybe two sex scenes. First one is romantic, tasteful, mushy and all that stuff. Second one is a little more intense/affarious. Both are important to the plot and are not just self-serving cuz I'm directing/acting in it, but they are important.

Logistics, blocking, technical...whatever, anyone really know anything covering this spectrum?

I mean, okay, I will block it with the actress just like a fight scene, specific moves for specific camera angles/shots and so on. The first scene is tasteful and all that romantic mushy stuff, so it will be mostly "implied", but rocking will be happenin'. God, this is weird. Anyway, do both the actors wear shorts, or what. I mean, some skin might show, do we put a pillow or a steel plate between the actors, I mean (guys), there is only so much mental control here. I know after rehearsal/several takes, things will be desensitized (i hope) but a move is a move, a gesture is a gesture, and a rub is a rub....you catch my drift? I don't even know where to begin with the 2nd scene with it being more intense (it is a flash of a jealous wife's imagination, so the images will be quick and although intensely detailed, the audience will only get flashes), sweaty and more with more skin involved.

I'll stop now and just see where the discussion goes.

Let's keep the humor to a minimum, in all reality this is no different than blocking actors walking down a street, but there are just several unique obstacles in the choreography I don't know how to handle. I am very numb/desensitized when it comes to acting out any scene as any character. I just want my actresses to know that this is professional and as neutral, and as comfortable as any other scene.

Thanks and good luck with this one.?8)?

For the most part it comes down to your pernsonal comfort with the actor...so step lightly, this is like your real life...it's a thing trust and knowing boundries../believe me she'll set them...it's your job as director discern between what you need and what you can work around. Remember, what ever you do...do it with certainty and sincerity because it comes through in any format

just fumbling out there like you GOOD LUCK!

I was thinking about this...I've decided not to worry about this until I'm an adult. (I'm 15) But it is true, sex sells... But this discussion can help me anyhow.

A 15 year old thinking about sex, that's unheard of!

J/K!?;)?

Anyway, yeah, this will hopefully prove to help a lot of people for future use. My co-screenwriter/director and I are having a meeting today to discuss the script and the sex scene(s) are a topic of discussion.

Oddly enough, my real-life girlfriend will be the one I have one of the scenes with. One of the many conflicts is (as objective as possible) that she is beautiful and the second sex scene is a jealousy-driven dream by my girlfriend's character which means I have to find an even hotter girl that poses a threat to my girlfriend's character.

I live in a small town so very attractive females that can act are few and far between.

So not only do I have to deal with the first scene with my own girlfriend (which isn't as much of a problem cuz she acts), but I have to find someone that is equally/more attractive than her and odds are it will be a non-actress. If no one fits the bill at the audition I'll have to approach people: "Hi, I'm making a movie, would you be okay doing a sex scene?"<---kinda creepy if you don't know me or have never acted before.....

I heard some actor on Jay Leno talk about how he avoided "natural reactions" was to sandwich a pillow between him and the actress. It was funny at first, but they were all professionals and understood that the male "reaction" is like a heartbeat: can't totally be controlled. After some initial humor they just got on with it.

I know this is a bit late but I have two bits of advice on sex scenes.

(1) Comes from Lyod Kauffman of Troma studios (backed up by the audio commentary of Chopper Chicks in Zombie town). Make the sex scenes the first things you film. That way it's out of the way early on and you haven't wasted a lot of film and time if the actors change their mind (assuming the scene really is important and can't be dropped for plot reasons).

(2) Watch the end of American Pie with audio commentary. Each character has their little sex scene and each one is done slightly differently. It might give you some ideas anyway.

My favorite sex scene is still the one in 'Fight Club'...

As to shooting it, yeah, it really comes down to what the actors want. The main thing is usually just to keep the crew to a minimum so they won't get too embarassed (every person on the crew will find they have a good reason to be on the set when you're filming a sex scene :)).

Of course it helps if the actors in question want a shag anyway, the first movie I worked on with a sex scene they apparently went home together afterwards :).

Why not do it virtually - You can get Curious Labs Poser 5 that would be realistic enough. I have it, so if you need help with it and stuff khaan11?aol.com. If you do it right, you can keep realism while not having to approach random people asking.

EAST OF SUNSET had 5 Scripted Sex Scenes, four made it to final cut.

They're not easy. You need to have a GREAT relationship with your actors based in TRUST and they must be proffesional.

There's no intimacy on the set, so it's wierd.

Personally, I worked with my actors, blocked the scenes clothed, then closed the set to all but essential crew. Wadrobe looked after the actors, we shot in one or two takes max at a time. And shot the scenes at the end of the day when we could let as much non-essential crew go.

Wardrobe people have special things for actos to wear but every situation is different depending on the actors, the scene and the shots
