Ok,so I'm making a commercial for school that includes a glass bottle rolling down a hill. I've come up with a couple ways of doing this but would really be open to hearing any suggestions or how any of you would go about doing this. I know this subject is a bit strange but I know there are some creative minds in here! Thanks

Well... you take bottle and roll it down the hill.

It's realy basic

Cut 1, bottle rolls away from camera. We see the whole hill beneath it.
Cut 2, bottle rolls past the camera (or camera dollys beside the bottle if you can manage that) to show the bottle going some distance. Perhaps even and overhead view of the bottle rolling down the hill.
Cut 3, bottle rolls towards camera near bottom of the hill. This is the shot that shows how far the bottle has come so far. Bottle stops by rolling into curb, or onto grass or is picked up and opened and spews foam all over the place.

Very nice.

Funny thing is I imagined a beer bottle for some reason. Guess I saw school in your opening paragraph and assumed college=beer.

Very nice. Did I say that?

Thanks. Yeah it was actually for a school project too, so it had a dual purpose. Glad you liked it!

That was great, really well done. You probably considered this, but did you think about maybe having the bottle roll into someones hand at the end, then they pick it up and use it on some chips/fries or something? Either way, very well done.

You should enter that into the Heinz commercial contest : ) Just a thought.

Thanks everyone for checking it out. It is already registered and entered into the Heinz commercial contest. Just waiting approval, but I don't see anything that would void it. So all I can do now is cross my fingers and hope I at least make it into the final 15. I'll keep you guys updated and all that.
Thanks again,
Tyson

My advice would be to create a steadycam frame and just track it from in front as it roles down the hill. Just be careful not to fall backwards down the hill, you could do your self an injury. Cleary.

Yeah I tried getting a good tracking shot but the bottle just doesn't roll straight at all. It took dozens of takes just to get the footage I have already. I used an old plastic Heinz shaped phone from 1984 for most of the shots just so I didnt have to deal with all the broken glass shards ?:D?

Very nice! I liked the kid that watched it roll by him, my only thought was I would have liked to see the tag line at the end of the commercial, after he picked it up, but it doesn't matter much anyways.
