Hi there, i am trying to film a documentary and think that filming it on an old hand crank camera would be so cool! does anyone know where to buy one of these? and would you need specific film? can anyone clue me in!? lol, thanks.

I'd suggest that you shoot normally on 16mm and achieve the hand-crank look in post.

The traditional thing would be something like an old 16mm clockwork Bolex: Peter Jackson shot his first feature on one. I believe you can get them for about $300 these days, but they'll probably be forty years old or more.

For 'very cheap', you'd almost certainly have to go down to super-8... those cameras basically start at $0 and go up to $1000 or more :). Not sure where you'd get them from, I got my super-8 camera from a store in London that deals in a lot of old cameras of that kind.

I think it was these guys:

Unfortunately it looks like prices have gone up quite a bit in the last few years!
