Great site, just discovered it so hopefully someone can set me straight...
Im currently in the US and want to buy a Canon HV20 HD Mini DV camcorder. US camcorders are NTSC but I am from the UK where it is PAL.
I have been told High Def video is universal and not NTSC or PAL.
Is this true? Can anyone shed some light on this topic for me?
I understand I can convert in FCP but really didnt want to do this, is High Def the same spec any where in the world? Is it wise for me to buy in the States (its sooo much cheaper).
Thanks for your help.

If you're shooting in the UK, buy PAL.

HD still has 50Hz and 60Hz options (and I think 59.94Hz too), so you're no better off. Some HD cameras have a menu option for switching between them; certainly the Sony Z1 does.
