Hi there! I was wondering, if I shoot a film onto mini dv tape, then transfer the footage using a different camcorder to a computer, would there be on loss of quality at all?

My firewire has stopped working on my camcorder ya see 🙁 Thanks guys!

No, in fact, you shouldn't use your primary camera for capturing anyway because it wears out the heads. I keep a second POS camera for my home system capturing while I save up for a deck.

While firewire isn't the highest quality import, the camera you use shouldn't make a difference.

I used to shoot on the DVX and capture with this little jvc i bought from ebay for 80$. I thought at first that the 24p wasn't going to translate, but in fact it came out well. It's all 1's and 0's i guess.
