Hello!

I'm trying to find out ways to add mostly analog picture interfearance to some footage I have shot in MiniDV.

First up I have thought of the obvious recording the footage onto a ropey VHS tape and copying it loads of times to make it looked crapped up, but now I want to take it a level further.

This is for a music video with quite a raucaus sound track. For the final shot of the video I want it to look like the image's interfearance is stemming from the sound. For e.g. - the higher pitched sounds create tight oscillations in the interfearance, and lower tones make the image more jumpy. Does that make sense? If you think of one of those oscillation displays that jump around depending on the sound it's measuring, if that can somehow be applied to the video image.

If you want a better idea of what I mean check out the "Come To Daddy" video by Aphex Twin, then you'll see what I mean! It's directed by Chris Cunningham.

One idea I have thought of is to get the footage onto a Hi8 tape in my old Sonyt handicam, and play the soundtrack very loudly through a cool sound system (if I can find one!) and hold the camera right on the speaker (hopefully with sub woofer) while I playback the footage and re-record it. I know those old cams suffer from vibrations so I'm sure this would create some sort of effect, but obviously I don't want to upset the neighbours!

I look forward to hearing your suggestions!

Best regards,

Mike
