Low budget crane.

hi i'm oscar,

i'm currently in the preproduction of my short, but there?s a problem. There's a shot where i need to use a crane, the problem is, there's no way that i can afford one. Do you have any ideas of how i can build a safe cheap crane.

Yes. Check out the Moviemaker magazine. There's actually an article about how to make a bunch of low budget things including a crane.

Here's a super low budget solution:

Use a ladder.

Put the camera on your shoulder or in your hand, climb the ladder, and shoot. If stability is a problem, try a monopod. If that is too shakey, try building your own steadycam.

Use a ladder. Attach a tripod to the camera but do not extend the legs so the thing acts like a monopod instead and has lots of grabbing room. Place one person on top of the ladder and one person on the ground and gently pass the camera from one to the other.
