There are many Asian directors who have become famous here in the States and the UK. There are many more who are working directors in film and TV but aren't famous. I don't know that any of them either became famous or became working directors based on the degree they got in school.

They all got to where they are based on the films they have made.

Getting a job as a director isn't the same as applying for a below-the-line job. And in TV there are several different types of directors needed so it's best to get very good at one and prove yourself. But a degree isn't going to really help. If you show up at any western TV station with a degree and only you films from school, you won't get very far. What types of programs are you most interested in directing?

Getting a job in the industry is difficult. There are no idea or suggestions or rules that will make anything easier. The best suggestion is to know someone. Beyond that we are all on our own. You will notice that most people on this board are independent movie makers. They make their own films because most of us have decided that is the best route.

So make a movie. Long or short but make one that can be shown at festivals and you will get attention and have something to say at that job interview.

If you go for four years of school first you should (a) make sure that you meet people at school that can help you (b) make as many student films as possible to learn what you are doing using university equipment that you probably could not afford on your own.

I'm still here. I can't think of anything else to offer. I already told you I don't think a degree will help, but as rj pointed out, it won't hurt either. I don't know anything about the industry in Pakistan so I don't know if a mass communication degree form another country will help you here at all. And the connection you make in school in Pakistan won't help you here in the states so that might not be the best way to go.

I wish I could help more, but I have no knowledge of the Pakistan schools and TV community.
