Hi everyone!

I'm getting ready to shoot a DV horror short, in which the main monster is an invisible creature with huge claws. I'm going to be doing a Night Of Camera Tests, and was hoping someone out there might have ideas for ways to do the effects.

Our two big effects are:

1.People getting clawed to death by the invisible monster (two in bed, one while standing).

2.A body gets dragged across the room by said invisible critter.

Some ideas have been considered, including wires under latex, and stop-motion wounds. Does anyone else have any ideas that we can try? Suggestions of all kinds would be very much appreciated. Thanks!
Daniel

not sure about the claws but as for the dragging. tie a rope to their feet and keep their feet out of the shot or have them lay belly downa on a skateboard tie a rope to the trucks and have someone tow them out and have the actor/actress kicking and screaming so it looks like they are being dragged

I've got one for ya. Chroma-key greenscreen.
Paint the "monster"'s fingertips with whatever blood mixture you have made up, and paint their clothes green , or a vivid minority colour.
Paint EVERYTHING you don't want seen the SAME colour, like green.
It might require two shots, one with the monster actor, and one without.
The second shot being the chroma key.
Just make sure, that you shoot both THE EXCACT SAME WAY.

Anywho, have the "monster" wipe his bloodied fingertips across the victim, smearing blood and exposing the pre-made rips (if any) in the t-shirt, while he remains invisible. Set your Chroma-key for Shot 1 to shot 2, which can be done relatively easily in an editing program like Final Cut or AfterEffects.

I've said this a few times before in other posts but the realm of visual effects becomes so easy once you get the basic idea of masking and keying. Set the camera on some sticks and frame up your shot. Shoot a plate, this is a shot without any actors in the shot and just the set itself. The plate is basically put on a layer behind your actual shot so that whenever you mask out a peice of your actual shot you expose the plate behind it so there is no hole or complex frame by frame painting or anything just a seemless looking picture. You can do so much with this once you practice it a bit and get an idea of how it works. This technique would help in both of the shots you are talking about but showing how is much different then typing about it. Sadly i'm not the best typer so I can't really help more then that.

What? $1000!! That's crazy talk!!
