...shoot a scene where we see a book crawling around on the ceiling. Yeeaah...I'm doing this for a live action short film (a bit of a wierd contemporary movie) and I need to figure out how I can have a MS of a room (tilted to see the actor and the ceiling on which there is a book crawling around which he is trying to get a hold of). I can't create a computerised book, I can't use a 'model' of the ceiling or anything like that. Basically I need to work out how the crap this can be possible. Any ideas?

I was thinking about using some sort of a wire...but has man been able to create a see-through wire in the course of film making history so far? At the same time I thought about plastic pole things...except when the light hits them they're extremely easy to see.

I would attempt to use a greenscreen-colored pole attached to the book. Then you can shoot the scene and erase the pole later. You will need to use a tripod and get some shots of the just the walls and roof to help with the masking but it shouldn't be that hard.

Find a room with a hardwood floor. Find a bare spot or move all the furiture. Place the book on the floor but tilt the camera in a way that makes the audience think they are looking "up". Move the book using stop motion, or a fishing line. If you want your actor in the shot, you can have a shot of him in a chair. Then have him look up. Then for the next shot where you point at the book on the floor have two big guys, or little guys, holding the actor upside down (lots of mousse on the hair here) with just his head in the shot (the back of his head) to make it seem if hes looking up.

Or you could just eliminate the actor from that particular shot. There are creative ways around it.

Think of it like this. How would they have done it in 1930s with no budget and no computers? It would have been VERY CHEAP. And simple too. But, because we're humans, we tend to be creative, if not hilariously absurd.

greenscreen ey...hmmm...if only i had a green pole and software that allowed me to do that. At the same time I can't use a floor like I said before because I need the light in the shot...I'd try stop motion but once again...how the crap am I meant to get a book up on the ceiling...is there some sort of special sticky crap I can use? Maybe I'll just try string...

string is good *_*

Did you really say "if I only had a green pole?" Buy a stick of wood for $5 and go to Wal*Mart and buy some Electric Lime paint and a brush for $10 and you have a green pole. And almost any modern editing package can do some kind of green screen. Barring that you could try to export the shot frame by frame and use photoshop to erase the green pole. Then import it back in.

If you are really intimidated by greenscreen and Chroma key Google the term "Matrix Pong" into your favorite browser and carefully watch the video over and over until you figure out how they are doing it.

firstly...i was being sarcastic since I dont have the money to buy new software and equipment. Trust me I know how to use greenscreen...I've done this stuff before...it's just not really an option here with the time and money that I have (independant filmmaking sucks sometimes). But it's alright, I think I have an idea already in mind.
