I'm pretty much doing Scenario 1. I'm just unsure how long it should last.

Another way to do it is have the fight dirty dozen style where someone learns the plan by memorizing a short song. Then you can have a character repeat the relivant part of the song if you think their might be confusion as to where they are planwise.
"After the guards are dead, Svelter chops off their heads!"

I was going to have that they sing 'Rock the Casbah' and other songs of that origin.
