The website is built...and i know where to get bots to simulate chatting..but how do I create an 'offline' chat room?
I've only got two days to do this, and some help would be great.
I'm sure there's a way..i just havent found the right tutorial yet.
I need to create a chat room, and be able to run it offline! So the online free chat rooms and stuff won't help..i need to create one on my computer that I can use offline. Then I need to add in bots to simulate chatting people. Let me know if anyone knows of a program or an online tutorial that will help me do this!
Thanx

Why? It sounds like you are trying to fake interest in your movie with bots. If nobody knows to find the chatroom in the first place they won't be there to see the bots. If they do find the chatroom then you don't need the bots.
Am I missing something?

Hi!
I don't know if the audience is going to see this..it's not actually for the net..it's for the actors. It's part of our prop list..and it gives actors something to get into. The concept is like creating the 'book of the dead' in the evil dead movies, except this is digital. A good part of our movie deals with the idea that some events take place online on a website. Incase we decide to show some of that...now we have a 'false' webpage that can be run from a disk.
And I think i've figured out how to do this too!?8D?

Thanks for clearing that up. Sorry I don't know enough about chat rooms to actually answer your question but I'm kind of interested in the answer myself now.

I don't know about the bots, but I have an idea for you. Microsoft had an old app called NetMeeting that you could share a single application between two or more users. I believe that capability is now incorporated into Microsoft Messenger. There is also an option on Microsoft Word under the Tools > Online Collaboration > Meet Now menu that might work, but I've never tried it.
You could setup a Microsoft Word document and share it with all the users. Then select the View > Full Screen and the Microsoft interface will disappear. It should allow various users to type into the same document and they could pretend to chat.
Hope this helps.

Hi,
Thanks for the replys! What I ended up doing was just typing out a chat script in microsoft word and then juiceing it up a bit, and pasting the picture onto the 'chat' page. I figured since it wouldnt be probably even seen for a split second on camera...it would work. I did figure out a way with IRC to create a server on my computer without the net, and then set up a bot to run on the same server. The problem was, everytime i closed the programs..i'd have re-program what the bot would say..even after re-saving the txt file. It was too time consuming for such a small part of the film! Only two more days of the shoot left! Whoo hoo!
