Hi!
My name is Steve and I'm working as assistant director
on a film called 'the profits of evil'. We shoot this month
and we are trying to figure the best way to do some last
second effects. We have a retractable knife, and condoms and
blood..for the blood packs. But what is the best way to use
a blood pack for a stabbing effect? I dont want it to explode..
and i dont think the retractable knife will break through clothes
and the condom. Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks,

First possibility is to put the sharp object (not to sharp) underneath the bloodpack so that the retractable knife pushes the bloodpack into the sharp object. The puncture will not gush outward the same way but it should spread under the shirt.
Second possibility is to do it is to do it with cuts (the movie kind). Have the retractable knife stab in and cut to another angle where the knife pulls out. Attach a bit of fishing wire to a hook or something on the blood pack so that when the knife pulls back it rips the bloodpack and a stream of blood goes back with the knife. This could be done without cuts if you hook the fishingwire to a fishing pole that simply pulls the line free as the knife hits. This can be a bit complicated timing wise though.
The third way is to use cuts to simply sell the thing without messing with the retractable knife. Sort of Hitchkock style. Knife goes up clean. Knife swings down. Shocked eyes of victim as they are hit (perhaps knife passes through frame). Knife goes up again, covered in blood. Victim falls clutching bloody chest. Knife is cleaned on victims clothes.
Fourth way. POV cuts. Victim POV looks up at crazy eyes of attacker then up at knife. Knife comes down. Blood splashes across attackers face as bloody knife is withdrawn. Attackers POV of bloody body on ground. Drop or two of blood on lense and cloth comes up to wipe them off. CU shot of attacker wiping blood from his face, then spitting on dead victim.
Anyway you can mix and match the various ideas to take it further.

Hi Thank you for the ideas!
I just got back from a production meeting, and i guess we're not going to use a retractable knife, we're using two of the same knife's, one with the blade, and one without. I've come up with an idea for a rig. I have this pump with a tube...I want to run the tube along the actors body and into the blood pack...We'll do the shot of the knife going into the body..we'll put a cut in the shirt..and then film the blood squirting out, using the pump to the effect that a main vein was hit.
If that doesnt work we'll probably use any one of those ideas you presented! Thanks again,
